Shadow Mountain plays across forested dunes north of Cranbrook. Graham Cooke and Wayne Carleton routed the 18 holes, and each hole carries its own name.

A round on the dunes
The course is 18 holes, par 72, and 7,405 yards from the Rockies tees, the longest of six sets. The other tees step down through Purcell, Selkirk, Kootenay, Monashee and Columbia.
A moment to remember: hole 17
Hole 17 is called The Monster, a downhill par 5. The fairway lies well below the tee, and the approach is to a small green with water on the left. Depending on the tee, it plays from 425 to 606 yards.
